Today our SPOTLIGHT is on Venezuela. A group of Russian Naval vessels has set off for the Caribbean on this week to conduct joint manoeuvres with the Venezuelan navy. This development follows a week-long visit to Venezuela by a pair of Russian strategic bombers and comes as Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is visiting Russia this week. What is behind the intensifying contacts between Russia and Venezuela? Well talk about it with Director of the Latin American Centre at the Moscow State University of International Relations - Alla Zenkovich.

  • You are not telling the truth. Before 1990 Venezuela had not control over its oil resources, because Esso, Texaco, Chevron, Total and other have absolut control over oil bussines in venezuela. Because of that USA now doesn't like to know nothing about Mr. Chavez. Now Venezuela has control over its resources.

  • @elkaku90 Soviet Union also had control....

  • @elkaku90 facepalm! Yo soy venezolano! I just wanna say oil was state owned since 1976. American and other companies have been there simply by concessions. Also I would like to point out, that just because the state own the oil it doesnt mean is for the people. I would like to remind you of the old Soviet Republics were also owned by the people, but they were hungry! and so are we. So yeah just because policy has a populist name, it doesnt mean it has populist results.

  • Nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced.

  • @luisbeck007

So true & people will read this & still believe that the US is a righteous country.

  • @elkaku90 wrong they never had control , but now the controller is chavez and still venezuela dont have control of its resources, chavez does and will use it for a totalitarian goverment

  • The Honduran government doesn't support Hugo anymore. Will military coups ever end in Latin America?

  • An American advisor named Alex Maine advised Chavez to shut down that TV station....did you know that?

  • Totally agree with you man... there's a lot of misinformation out there, the World have not seen the whole thing that's happening over here in Venezuela... that is great promises, bad administration... as always :S

  • If you don't like tax don't use the roads.

  • Why do they force you to pay taxes but you can simple no vote for how much will be the military expenditures?? Now those bastards of the Pentagon and military industry has broke the Nation and enslave people for at least 100 years with more than 13 trillion dollars debt while destroying their neighbors markets during 50 years of cold war... Like the Roman Empire talking about democracy with the slaves under the table... go back to england lick the Queen illegal bastards criminals in the USA.
