The song lyrics were inspired by the tragic real life stories of the victims of drunk driving crashes, interviews with surviving friends and families, and with the support of the Connecticut Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). Songwriters Debra Alt and Jeff Fuller developed the music and lyrics, and the song was arranged, orchestrated and performed in June, 2009, by the entire Music Department of the Educational Center for the Arts, ECA, a regional arts magnet high school in New Haven, CT.
