In 2009, the Arkansas Minority Health Commission funded JCCSI to implement the SISTA Program [SHOW S.I.S.T.A Sisters Informing Sisters on Topics About AIDS], which is an intervention developed by the Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Interventions project (DEBI) and endorsed by the CDC as a science-based effective intervention that specifically targets sexually active African-American women. Because the target population includes female college students attending Arkansas Baptist College, Philander Smith College, and the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff, JCCSI changed the name to SISTERS to duplicate a sorority-type theme for the trainings.
