Changing the culture of voting in Native American communitie

Carol Weahkee, of SAGE Council, discussed the importance in Native Americans working hard to get out the vote. SAGE Council emphasized strategic get-out-the-vote campaigns after finding that successful community mobilization around issues like protecting sacred sites fell flat at the ballot box. "We could get people out to talk about the issues," said Weahkee, "but we were losing every vote." Today, she says, things are changing.
