You know, we ought to open a new subsection of the Fred Astaire Addicts Club called "Friends of Roberta", dedicated to widening the appreciation of this neglected gem!LOL All the usual accepted classics (Top Hat, Swing Time" etc) are shown whenever something Astaire is called for, and they are brilliant, but I only got to see (record) "Roberta" at 5am on TCM, so no wonder it's not better known. Still, thanks to lovely people like you, and youtube, its glories are gonna shine!

I think the reason it's less known is that it is just recently getting its legs - For many years, while The Gay Divorcee and Top Hat and Swing Time were getting plenty of air time, there was no way to get Roberta on VHS or DVD, as every copy had degraded too badly to warrant transfer. I'm so delighted that they were able to get one together!

I want to see the part when Fred is singing "I won't dance" and then he starts dancing, I love it!

Part of the fun of this movie is how Fred and Ginger both play off each other and evolve. Ginger particularly comes on as a shrewish, one dimensional character but evolves as the story continues. Plus the way Fred & Ginger's character developments push the Irene Dunne & Randolph Scott characters into supporting roles is amazing because they make it look so easy..

Do you have the ability to upload "I Won't Dance?" It is one of my favorite scenes from this movie, but it is nowhere to be found on Youtube.

I love this song. it sounds so playful
This is such a cute little number from Fred, it really swings hick style "from Indiana" but is rarely shown. I love the way various members of his band join in, they're like cartoon characters, especially Candy Candido with his amazing trick voice. Thank you for downloading it!

You're welcome. Roberta is generally very underrated and is rarely shown, but it's a great movie! Fred and Ginger are at their best in this one,I think.

Exactly. I find myself watching "Roberta" more than any other of their movies. Fred is so full of spirit, humour and charm - he seems to have enjoyed making this movie more than any of the others, and his singing, dancing and piano-playing are sensational. He has some great lines in it too!

And the movie's atmosphere is a bit different than in any other of their films, somehow it's more laid-back and there's no that well-known formula (ya know,Fred makes Ginger mad-Ginger hates him-he's smitten-they dance-Ginger loves him-something happens so she's mad again, but in some wacky way things get cleared up and we have our happy end :) I do love all of their movies, but as you said, Fred is just amazing in this one and really funny too!
