Captive Daughters Presents "Sex Trafficking Around the World: The Nordic Countries"

In this video series we will be presenting Country Reports -- a brief look at sex trafficking in various countries. Today we are focusing on the Nordic countries.

"Nordic Countries: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland"

Actor: We have focused on countries with the worst records and incidences of sex trafficking, but today we're going to look at a group of countries that leads the world in woman-friendly policies and in combating trafficking. The Nordic Countries are some of the most pro-female nations in the world. Feminism and women's rights not only thrive in these countries, they are actually mandated by state law.

Last month Iceland outlawed all strip clubs in their country and the media quickly bestowed the title of "Most Feminist Country" upon them. Iceland's Prime Minister, Johanna Siguroardottir, who is the first openly lesbian head of state in the world makes defending women's rights one of her top priorities. The politician who first proposed the ban, Kolbrún Halldórsdóttr, said of the decision: "Last year we passed a law against the purchase of sex, recently introduced an action plan on trafficking of women, and now we have shut down the strip clubs. The Nordic countries are leading the way on women's equality, recognising women as equal citizens rather than commodities for sale."

women as equal citizens rather than commodities for sale."

So, why are the Nordic countries so good at leading the way on women's equality? For starters Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland rank 1, 2, 3, and 4, with Denmark at number 8, in the Global Gender Gap Report which assigns rankings based on political involvement of women, economic parity between men and women and education opportunities and outcomes.

The countries that treat women fairly in school and the workplace, and respect their personal rights to freedom and family also place higher on the US State Department's Trafficking in Person's Report Tier Ranking. Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark are all Tier 1 countries, and Iceland is a Tier 2 country.

Perhaps it was the so-so Tier 2 ranking that Iceland received in the 2009 TIP report that motivated them to do more against trafficking in the last year. Since the report was conducted, Iceland has passed new laws to punish, protect and prevent trafficking and last month prosecuted it's first traffickers under these laws, convicted five men to five years each in prison for forcing a women into prostitution.

In Sweden children began receiving anti-sexism lessons in Kindergarten and the result of this awareness is women who advance equal to men, based on their merit and talent and not on their gender or looks. Today half of Sweden's politicians are female, and fathers receive paternity leave when their children are born.

Contrast this culture of equality with Nepal, one of the lowest ranking countries on the Global Gender Gap Report. In Nepal girls rarely receive education, women are expected to eat whatever is left over from their husband's plates (even when they're pregnant) and girls are frequently bought and sold into sex slavery.

We can learn valuable lessons about the root causes of sex trafficking and slavery from comparing the top ranking gender gap countries with the lowest ranking. Widely available healthcare and family planning, access to education from a young age, good paying jobs for women and a culture that practices equality in law, life, economy, and politics is a country where trafficking will be scarce.

Opportunities for Women = Less Sexual Slavery

In addition to the cultural standards of equality, the Nordic countries also have strict laws that punish trafficking and protect victims, as well as prevent trafficking from flourishing.

Strong Governmental Laws + Economic Opportunities = Women-friendly Countries

The well being of women is a political issue, plain and simple. You can encourage your legislators to stand up for women in other countries where they are voiceless and abused, and you can support campaigns and groups such as ones that advocate education for girls or microloans for women in developing countries. • I dont know if banning strip clubs is really a move forward.

  • @TheGoldStandardBoy Progressive is fine, as long as it works and make sense. As soon as it stops making sense then its time to revert to conservative ideas. Such as, men get back their rightful masculinity and be providers and protectors as they always were. Get rid of the radical Marxist feminists who want to break up families. Return women and men to puritan values of modesty and loyalty and respect. Women look for a real man, a rock, that is why women suffer.

  • @o0POSH0o I have a very good friend who lives in Sweden actually. From the numerous times I have been there I can tell you that the Swedes are a progressive and decent people who are for the most part highly educated and enlightened. I have been to all of the other Nordic countries as well apart from Iceland and found them to be the same. It's no coincidence that these countries are amongst the most advanced countries in the world while misogynistic countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran are not.

  • @o0POSH0o There are too many people in the world full stop. It's funny that imbeciles like you always have the most to say for yourself. I don't even want to entertain that last post you made.

  • @TheGoldStandardBoy Lesbianism is a fad, more women are "turning lesbian" because it is more acceptable to be lesbain than it is for men to be gay. Women try to seek all there needs and requirements in another woman, but ultimately it is all about lust and vanity without the true purpose of a sexual relationship and that is to produce kids..... preferably white kids white people are an endangered species because of feminists and lesbians. Islam is going to teach you guys unless you shape up.

  • @o0POSH0o I better tell my lesbian friends their life is not worth living then. The one who owns her own business. Shit the world has collapsed.

  • @TheGoldStandardBoy Unfortunately having any opinion contrary to the establishment is trolling...... what next, an inquisition? Ask yourself this..... have you ever seen a women carry a man? A man in this life has to learn to provide, if he doesn't he will be left as waste in the gutter. A woman is only looking for what a man can provide, she will always feel her life depends on a man. If not she takes to drink and religion and in some cases to prostitution in an attempt to get money.

  • @o0POSH0o You are the worst internet troll ever. I've seen some pretty good ones but you are just shit.

  • women will go out of their way and defy the laws. They will continue to prostitute on the streets. Feminists are clueless as to what is really happening..... women just want an easy life with few decisions and a strong husband that will the rock of her life. But because women can't find that they go and prostitute.
