Both strains of herpes HSV-1 and HSV-2 are spread through skin to skin contact! not door handles. when people have sex (oral, anal, vaginal) friction occurs causing micro abrasions in the skin, allowing dna from both partners dna to flow freely. Though it is possible by shaking hands, its still very rare. the virus usually remains dormant at nerve bases around the affected area but when an out break occurs it becomes more latent in the blood stream.
