@cns2cns2 In 1969, ... Because the saint's life is so unreliably documented, Pope Paul VI ordered the feast of Saint Nicholas dropped from the official Roman Catholic calendar in 1969. ("Santa Claus" Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 99)

Some people says Happy winter solstice and Yule that are from pagan. They do celebrate Christmas like you do. :) They just say differently in the term to announce Merry Christmas. We should enjoy the life to celebrate what we believe in and to show the honor for higher divine.
Merry Christmas

Sinterklaas (so nicknamed for Saint Nicholas in The Netherlands) celebrates his birthday December 6th by giving gifts to the children. I grew up celebrating the birthday of Sinterklaas on December 6, and two Christmas Days (December 25 and 26). After we moved to the U.S., I was amazed by the fact that many people here do not know when birthday is for Santa Claus. In Holland Christmas Days were celebrated religiously and the gifts for children are often clothes for the church.
