Different techniques, different goals:
I'm not saying that the hollow technique is wrong, but different.

On Valentin Uzunov his words, "I hope to show you one method to coaching and performing (the circles). I have to stress that the method explore here is definitly not the only way of coaching (circles) and it's really a matter of preference, gymnast, morphology, etc. "

  • Great. Their is a cross between these two methods. Hollow some in front and tight open position in back and visa versa. Advantage to this is if you move in out out of this smoothly you effectively created a horizontal TAP in the same maner you can tap thru a verticle swing on HB. There are times for both methods according the skill to be done out of the circle such as hops. I suspect that learning to tap opens new doors not really pursued much on PH.

  • @coachgeo : you are right coachgeo! Doing it smoothly you create the horizontal tap. This TAG is going to be at its very peak (100% biomechanical effectiveness) only if it is being done with the CHEST AND NOT WITH THE HIPS

  • @gimor

I don't quite understand the chest motion. Are you supposed to keep the chest out in the front and slighlty hollow in the back (almost like a planche)?

  • @ken434

that planche thing is a good way of thinking Ken. Yes, in the front (back support) your chest should be out -shoulder blades together- and in back (front support) a hollow chest. Be careful with this part, because it should be only your chest hollow and not your entire body. Hollow chest with a tight butt and tight lower back (hyper-extended core)

  • great tutotial

  • @tomp2008 well, thank you there

  • You call this TUTORIAL!? Why don't you buy a dictionary?

  • @coachgeo nice check out pobidansta

  • easier said than done!

  • Here's the biggest difference:

The guys who close their hips get deducted, the Olympic levels guys probably only 0.1 but the deductions are 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 in the current MAG COP. Although I don't judge those levels yet, the circle deductions are the same at all levels. So not only is opening hips (tight arch) the correct technique, it also has higher potential for winning.

P.S. If you have to tap on pommel, you're cheating.

  • shit video

  • @gimor

So you flex your shoulder blades in the back support while relaxing it in the front support (planche)?

  • @ken434 loosly speaking sounds about right but I'll leave it up to Gimor to be more exacting. He's the expert. I coach Acro and TnT now mostly. Have not done MAG in about 4 years. I do miss it some though.

  • @coachgeo

So basically, here is what I'm assuming:

    hollow circles:

-slightly activate your shoulder blade (scapula) in the rear support, while relaxing it in the front support.

    Arched circles:

-relax your scapula in the rear support, while activating your scapula in the front support.

  • One way to evaluate the two techniques in this vid is to watch the path of shoulders. Think as if your above horse looking down. The Gimore extended one you see the shoulders lean further in all directions. This lean allows a straighter less hollow closer to straight body. The hollow tech. trained athletes you see their shoulders lean in a much smaller circle. Thus deeper hollow rear support & more arch in front support is required to keep legs above the pommel in longitudinal (loop) circle

  • @ken434 cont. Tech. 2 that Gimor is promoting is front support with no hollow in hips, flat & extended. Chest I believe he is saying is either open to minimally hollowed. Rear support also no hip hollow & some chest hollow. like flat plaunch. BTW this technique will require more lean strength in all directions.

Remember that what folk "say" like relaxed blades.;may be technically wrong.. but saying it triggers a feeling that gets an athlete to do something closer to tech. desired
