My grandpa came from here and I lived there for a bit. Glad to see there's a new safer bridge in town, but sad to see the old one was blown up. They could have kept it up alongside the new one like they've done here in CA where I live now for historic bridges.

I liked the old bridge. The new one supports more traffic but has no connection to the past. Maybe I'm a nostalgic old fool, but I wish we could have kept it for a secondary route over the river.
As for the old Jr. High turned annex, I will miss that the most. I've been away for two decades and remember when the Band of Spartans moved into the gym turned awesome band room. We had probably the nicest facility for High School Band in Northern Louisiana. Mr Hollingsworth was great - good memories.

I grew up here and the bridge was falling appart and was getting dangerous. It was bitter sweet for me but I did get a piece of old steel with an old rivit in it and a square piece of rebar.

Born & raised here...never felt safe on that piece of junk, anyway. Or in the High School Annex building that was full of mold. They demolished that, too. Now, what else can we demolish in Columbia? Don't get offended, if you had to grow up here you'd understand. Unless, of course, you like drinkin', ridin' bulls, fundamentalist christians & pregnant teenage girls who love loud pipes. No, seriously...if the world was a man, Columbia, LA would be his a**hole!

just came across this.....I've been gone from Columbia for several years now, but I had a lot of good memories go down with that bridge...sure hated to see that piece of history blown into dust... it's a shame they couldn't have just left it next to the new bridge....for our grand kids to see etc...thanks for posting...

sad video! i am from this town and wish they would have kept this bridge for a museum or something! it was one of the only draw bridges left in louisiana!

I just went to Columbia this past weekend for my 40th Class Reunion. I was surprised to see the new bridge. The whole town looks different. I was surprised when I tried to find Grayson too. My classmates told me that you could view the demolition online so I googled it and found it!! Thanks for posting it! I have videos posted too if you're interested. God bless!! Lady
