A song from my set of Benjamin Britten's folk songs, from my senior recital.

At the mid hour of night
when stars are weeping, I fly
To the lone vale we lovd
when life shone warm in thine eye;
And I think that if spirits can steal
from the region of air,
To revisit past scenes of delight;
thou wilt come to me there,
And tell me our love is remembered
een in the sky.
Then Ill sing the wild song,
which once twas rapture to hear,
When our voices, both mingling,
breathed like one on the ear,
And, as Echo far off thro the vale
my sad orison rolls,
I think, oh my Love! tis thy voice
from the kingdom of souls
Faintly answering still
the notes which once were so dear.

  • Nice Job ! Would love to hear you perform the original version though. Britten has taken the lyricism out of the original as much as I Like BB he should have let the Irish Melodies alone.

  • @richardhanna0 I'm actually not the biggest fan of Britten myself (I know, I know, I might be struck by lightning for saying that!) but this was my Senior Recital and the music was selected for me. Thanks for the compliment!

  • Your performance was immensely useful in my search for english repertoire.

    I thought you performed this wonderfully, even if it wasn't your favourite piece (because of it being Britten). You did a great job. : D

    Thank you so much for sharing your video and I wish you luck in your singing endeavors! <3

  • What university was this at? And why don't they allow seniors to select their repertoire?
