it can mean a lot of different things.its too hard to get in dylan's world...but i think it means that a person is ready to die(hes knocking on heavens door) and he cant defend himself.
Im a teen and im not listening to the nowadays crappy music...
i said i know better music because i started playing an instrumentand i only hearing real music...i just born in the wrong generation.

"Who the hell needs a gun to be Knocking on heavens door, Bob"? Dylan wrote this for the film Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid. On a side note, Dylan was in the movie. So to answer the question in the simplest terms, a dying cowboy, Billy the Kid.

It's Iggy Pop. He is supposed to be the first Punk Rocker. I first heard of him in the late 70's and I thought he was outrageous, fascinating and new. What I see now is a fine life destroyed by alcohol and drugs.
