Idina Menzel (the original Tony Award winning Broadway/London Elphaba) performing "Defying Gravity" in the musical Wicked on Broadway. The exact date is unknown, although it was sometime back in 2004.

*I did not record this. I also have no idea what is wrong with the lighting lol. It must be from the camera because it is not like that in the show.

  • IDINA WAS, IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE BEST ELPHABA!! SHE IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC AND CAN NEVER BE SURPASSED BY ANY OTHER ELPHABA!! And, she does the broomstick thrust at JUST the right time to make it look like she turned the lights off!!

  • Her baby, Walker Nathaniel Diggs was born on September 2nd, 2009!!! :)

  • @angiebedford Really? Well thats nice. Too bad she didnt go back to Wicked after (though being a mother has its role i guess)

  • @BlazedHearts Amanda's voice is fine! She did Anything Goes this year, and is going to be in An Officer and a Gentleman (World Premiere). Our understanding here in Oz is that she took time to be with her child

  • I think that first "Meeee Down!" Is one of the best ones she's ever done. :)

  • My dream is for my only daughter and myself is to love each other and accept each other for who we are becoming as women.love you peanut until I DIE CARRY you with me in my heart, must close to painful just want us happy!!!Life is to short!!MOM

  • @BlazedHearts YES!!! that is who it was. i had forgotten, since I'm not that familiar with her anyway... And I couldnt agree more when you say Idina's voice wasnt fully "compatible". I love her too, Most days anyway... Is she my absolute favorite? of course not. but she was still able to give a great performance most of the time. and no problem about the long post! lol :)

  • @LiirDefiesGravity couldnt cope to the fullest extent (sorry for the long post, xD).

  • @LiirDefiesGravity That would be Amanda Harrison. Nobody really knows what happened to her, though ruining her voice became the "official" story over the internet.

Of course, I probably put to much blame on Wicked, my bad. I agree completely when you say they known their limits (or lack there of), and I also feel that some try to push themselves too far or too hard.

Now I love Idina, but her voice never really was that "compatible" with Wicked. She was the original and still her voice

  • @BlazedHearts I heard one of the Australian Elphabas simply left and never came back, although she was under contract, because the show ruined her voice. I dont feel that its the shows fault though... not completely. Every actor and actress knows their limits, or lack there of, and I feel that some try to out do others FAR too often, risking their own careers in the process...

  • @LiirDefiesGravity I forget which Elphie (maybe Julia Murney) said it, but they stated that Wicked was simply irresponsibly written. Which in part I agree with, I mean look at the number of voices that've been damaged or overal changed through Wicked.

  • @Elphiesgreenfriend Well, She has asthma, so I'm sure thats one of the main reasons... The music for this show is SO demanding at times, its rediculous... Some actresses have even said that their voices changed during the show, simply because the music...
