Fall of Elephant Pass imminent
The LTTE is facing a dire challenge of protecting the Elephant Pass bastion after the fall of Paranthan and Kilinochchi.
Troops of the 58th Division have advanced towards Paranthan after capturing Pooneryn. The terrorists were engaged in an untiring effort to protect Paranthan. It is reported that even Velupillai Prabhakaran gave orders in the Paranthan battle. However, the troops succeeded in taking control of Paranthan after launching heavy attacks. Accordingly, the Army Commander said the soldiers had succeeded in closing in on Elephant Pass about two kilometers. The LTTE had suffered a severe setback after losing Kilinochchi. They are now facing a serious challenge in safeguarding Elephant Pass. Reports emanating from the battlefront said the LTTE will have to flee from Muhamalai and Kilali, if they are deprived of the narrow land stretch linking Jaffna. Accordingly, capturing Elephant Pass will be a critical decision.
