this song is in the trailer of 'The Painted Veil' too, but it's not the soundtrack of that film. anyway, i feel really into the song when it is in 'The Painted Veil' more than in 'The Last Samurai'.

Hans Zimmer is definitively good in making oriental music.(Check out his last Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2)

For me when i saw tom cruise was in a samurai film i thought oh this is going to be shit, it turned out he gave a fantastic performance and the movie did extremely well in portraying the beliefs of the samurai's what then made this a great film to epic was the sound track. Music can cement a movie in time and hans zimmer has a habit of doing so.
