Probably one of the biggest let downs in a game I've ever experienced. I've heard a lot of good things about Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3 was a really good game. But unfortunately, even if it would have been the best horror game I've ever played, if it's rendered unplayable because of bugs, glitches and coding issues, I have to give it a 0/5. Maybe it's just the result of being a bad port, maybe the PS2 version was perfect, but I don't have a PS2, and even if I did I wouldn't be willing to buy Silent Hill 2 again just to get a working game, it should work properly the first time. I noticed control of the camera was limited and the camera itself was badly positioned, and I noticed this was true in Silent Hill 3 as well, but to a much lesser extent. So perhaps it is just a crappy port, but if that's the case, I have to rate the experience I played, and being unplayable, I can't give it a proper score, nor can I recommend it to anyone. I'd like to say if you enjoy horror games and still have your PS2, you should try Silent Hill 2, but since I can't play any further than half of the first level, I can't say that either.

If I were to rate the game itself from the hour or so I played, barring control, camera and sound issues, I'd say it was one of the most interesting horror games I've ever played, and I really would like to finish it. The atmosphere was unsettling, the music was well done, the story was immersive, all the ingredients for an excellent game. I really wish the publishers would make sure a port was well done before releasing it, because this isn't the first time a game has been ruined for me because of it being a crappy port. Several other PC ports I own have similar issues, some being unplayable as well. I get how the publishers want to expand their market by making ports, but they won't win any friends shipping out unplayable versions of the game just to make a quick buck.

So all in all, a 0/5. Maybe that doesn't sound fair, and maybe it isn't, but neither is not being able to play the game I bought. If you're really interested in Silent Hill 2 but don't have a PS2, don't bother buying the PC port. Maybe it's the perfect game on PS2, but I can't know that without playing it, and I can't recommend it until I do.
