Luca Marenzio (b 1553 or 1554; , d 22 Aug 1599) is best known for his secular madrigals but his religious music is also very good. Marenzio wrote "Tribus miraculis" in 1585 scoring it for four voices.What I find remarkable about this piece are the changes in texture as Marenzio progresses through the three events of celebrated on January 6th - the feast of the Epiphany. He finishes with an Alleluia which is a tour de force in its own right.

I created and uploaded this music video so that I could discuss Marenzio's composition in an article to be published on "Saturday Chorale" (http://saturdaychorale.com) The direct link to the article is:

Latin

Tribus miraculis ornatum diem sanctum colimus:
hodie stella Magos duxit ad praesepium:
hodie vinum ex aqua factum est ad nuptias:
hodie in Jordane a Joanne Christus baptizari voluit,
ut salvaret nos. Alleluia.

English

We celebrate a day sanctified by three miracles:
today a star led the Wise Men to the manger;
today water was changed into wine at the marriage feast;
today Christ chose to be baptised by John in the Jordan
for our salvation. Alleluia
