This video, created by Jason Carabelli, Megan, Ashley, and Mary, shows a tutorial session where a student is upset and making the tutor uncomfortable. The video was created as part of a class project for WRT 320: Peer Tutoring in Composition at Oakland University. The goal of the video is to present a situation that facilitates discussion for tutor training purposes.

Your tutor is maintaining his cool and I don't know how he does it. De-escalating the tutee at this point is a technique to get them to hear what she is saying is not getting the job done. Simply saying: "What you're saying is: blah, blah, right?" And, "you feel blah, blah".... is that correct?" OK. So you are upset that ....... now what do you need to do now to get this done by tomorrow?. If she doesn't want to work, then tell her you can't help her and bid goodbye.

Great acting job by the student, but overall the video is not instructive for writing center tutors.
