Questions put to Louise Upston in this video covered the topics of performance-linked funding, international education, loan cuts, VSM, and student loan debt. The questions were in this order:

You spoke a lot about the University sector. However, if a student starts on a Level 1 course at an ITP and doesn't move on to a second or third level course that counts as a fail which unfairly puts polytechnics in a bad position[in terms of educational performance statistics measured by the government]. How will you rectify that so people will not be unfairly tarnished?

Globally, education is becoming more flexible and is being targeted as a lifelong. However in NZ, the Tertiary Education Strategy is focussed on completions, efficiency and internal full time students. For part time students, access is decreasing -- these students are efficient -- lower loan uptake with no access to course costs. How does Nationals' policy attend and support these students?

If we look at National supporting VSM and the outcomes for students and their representatives who have a voice, what does the govt have in place to help students out now they have less representation from students associations? If we look at Kiwisaver, how can you justify making that compulsory?

The question was, what do you have in place to help students out? Your answer implied you don't have anything, nor do you need anything to help students out.

Student debt acts currents as a regressive flat 10% tax on all income above $19,000 for graduates. Does that concern you?
