The opening scene of Ishara is shot with subjective camera, representing the viewer entering the "street" where the protagonist lives. Hence you enter the mind of the protagonist, who is Amir, a painter who makes "pictures". Obviously, he is alter ego of the filmmaker Waheed Murad (who plays the role of Amir, and wrote, directed and produced the movie).
This first song from the movie is a symbolic representation of the artist's inner world which you are now visiting. In my workshops, I usually ask the participants to (a) list all the actions which the protagonist is performing on screen; and (b) then see whether those actions can be interpreted as symbolic statements about the role played by artists like Waheed Murad in their societies.
I have sub-titled the clip in English. Lyrics: Masroor Anwar. Music: Sohail Rana. The film was written, produced and directed by Waheed Murad and released from his banner Film Arts in 1969. Black & White, with the last reel in colour.
