And here's the Phantasm score run. At the time, the English scoreboard topped out in the mid 850 million range, so I set myself a goal to break the 1 billion barrier - and eventually did it. This score has been beaten pretty thoroughly since then, but it was at the top of the English community board for a while.
Score running was a pretty interesting experience. While practicing, I found myself continuously refining my runs, cutting out risks whenever they were not necessary and focusing more on solid, consistent play. You end up planning out how you want to take each situation, and then you try to execute each step of that plan as flawlessly as possible. It's much harder than it sounds. The resulting experience is more a battle of nerves than anything else; I constantly had to fight the urge to deviate from whatever I had planned in favor of something that was easier to do.
I realized I had a good run on my hands by the time Yukari showed up, and that's when the nerves started to kick in. The rest of the run was basically me hanging on for dear life, trying to stay calm enough to see the plan to completion without compromising or messing up. My control got more and more rigid as the run went on, but thankfully I finished things well enough to meet my score goal.
