As a freedom loving American and a veteran of the Marine Corps, I was shocked by President Obamas proposal this week to save money by forcing disabled veterans to fund their own healthcare through their private insurance.
With what appears to be uncontrolled spending on untold numbers on federal programs why all of a sudden is there an attempt to slow down this irresponsible spending spree by making the very ones who have already given so much - pay the tab?
I know you dont have to serve in the military to appreciate the men and women who do serve. But you have a greater appreciation when youve had to notify the next of kin, the mother or father of a young Marine who lost their life in the service of our country or youve handed the neatly folded American flag that draped a coffin to a grieving widow.
Now, I am thankful that by weeks end the president retreated from his proposal as a result of the outrage expressed by Americans at the very idea.
But this points to a greater misconception of our military which went almost unnoticed last week at a bill signing ceremony where the President signed the Omnibus spending bill, a measure that funds the operations of the federal government.
As he signed the measure he pointed to a provision which Congress has routinely placed in it for nearly two decades, that Congress would not authorize funds to place U.S. troops under foreign command through the United Nations. The President stated he would not abide by such a provision because it limited his authority as commander-in-chief.
This is very alarming. Given the instability of the world and the internationalism that has already been on display in this administration our military could become the police force for every left leaning European idea that makes its way through the United Nations.
Mr. President. Thank you for rethinking the idea of making our disabled veterans pay for their own healthcare. I would ask that if you are harboring the notion of giving the U.N. greater authority over our men and women who bravely serve America, to rethink that idea as well.
Remember this when that moron comes up for re-election.

Anything that lessens the benefits our spoiled military gets is a good thing.
