It was not an illegal substitution. Bey Bey Thomas is a WR and was on the field for the 3rd down play. Thomas is also on the field goal squad as well. He just lined up in a different place on the field. So it was not a substitution.

So, ignoring how poorly worded the rule is (it seems to be outlawing 'confusion', which I'm pretty sure is the point of any trick play), it wasn't an illegal substitution because there was no substitution. Thomas never left the field.

@scottyray12 no they didn't Clemson confused SC by making it look like Jacoby Ford was tying his shoes and not ready for the snap. They didn't use the substitution process. That's what makes GT's trick play illegal. They used the substitution process.

Uh, try again. We still have our trophy. We were asked to give it up, and said we'd appeal it. So far, there's been NO EVIDENCE that there were ineligible players used. The reason we're "in trouble" is because of the claim (by a UGA and Clemson grad, by the way) that we weren't forthcoming in helping with the investigation. So much trash.
