Judo, Akkido, and brazilian ju jitsu came from jujitsu so they look a like at times. Judo is based on throws and chokes, Akkido is based on locks, chokes, and throws in which you use the enemy energy against them, and brazilian jj is more based on ground work which was also injluence by vale tudo matches the gracies had in brazil. So things look alike but philosphy changes a lot.

judo came out of jiu jitsu. And jiu jitsu has both ground fighting and standing up with punches and kicks

True; tounaments mean rules and TJJ has no rules. Bite, poke an eye, use the element of surpise, these can not be used in competition. Judo and BJJ, were born from TJJ so competions could exist. The Martial Art are basically one big family tree, No truely new art will be born util people begin to grow 3 arms and four legs. Until then Aikido will have element of TJJ, BJJ will have element of Judo, etc.

Well it's the same thing when you have guys who want to shot at each other for fun. They use paintball guns instead of real guns so they don't kill each other. Traditional Juijitsu is geared more towards the sharpening of mind and fine motor skills used for lethal strikes and manuveurs. BJJ is an awesome combat sport and would also come in handy should an altercation go to the concrete. Usually, most examples of TJJ effectiveness would occur mostly in a potentially dangerous situation.

The only thing that I don't like about Traditional Jiu Jitsu is that they don't participate in tournaments like BJJ. People really don't get to see how effective it is one way or the other.
