Portuguese Subject Pronouns Exercise


Supply subject pronouns

1. Marie é Sueca (Marie is Swedish.)
Ela é sueca (She is Swedish.) We use ela because Marie is feminine singular.

2. Kostas é Grego (Kostas is Greek.)
Ele é Grego (He is Greek.) We use ele because Kostas is masculine singular.

3. Jack e Bob são Americanos. (Jack and Bob are American.)
Eles são Americanos. (They are American.) We use eles because Jack and Bob are masculine plural.

4. Anna e Maria são velhas amigas (Anna e Maria are old friends.)
Elas são velhas amigas (They are old friends.) We use elas because Anna e Maria are feminine plural.

5. Marcos é um médico. (Marcus is a doctor.)
Ele é um médico. (He is a doctor.) We use ele because Marcos is masculine singular.


6. O bebê está feliz. (The baby is happy.)
Ele está feliz. (He is happy) We use ele because the baby is a boy.


7. Cláudia não está feliz. (Claudia is not happy.)
Ela não está feliz. (She is not happy.) We use ela because Claudia is feminine singular.


8. Mauro e Márcio estão na empresa. (Mauro and Marcio are in the company.)
Eles estão na empresa. (They are in the company.) We use eles because Marcos and Marcio are masculine plural.


9. O cão não está em casa. (The dog is not in the house.)
Ele não está em casa. (It is not in the house.) We use ele because the dog is a male.


10. O policial está no carro. (The cop is in the car.)
Ele está no carro. (He is in the car.) We use ele because the cop is a guy.


11. O carro está na garagem. (The car is in the garage.)
Ele está na garagem. (It is in the garage) We use ele because carro ends in 'o' and it is considered masculine in portuguese regardless is a thing or object.


12. As vacas estão na fazenda. (The cows are in the farm.)
Elas estão na fazenda. (They are in the farm.) We use elas because vacas is feminine plural in portuguese.

13. A casa é bonita. (The house is beautiful.)
Ela é bonita. (It is beautiful) We use ela because casa ends in -a and it is considered feminine singular in portuguese regardless is a thing or object.

14. Fabiana e eu estamos bebendo. (Fabiana and I are drinking.)
Nós estamos bebendo. (We are drinking.) We use nós because we are two.

Português não é uma língua difícil. A única coisa que temos que fazer é simplificar ela.

Hey! This is cool! Like Greek, Portuguese demonstrative pronouns point to and identify a noun or a pronoun. Brazilian is not so difficult. It might be kind of nice.
