There are answers in the declaration of independence, and yes they are afraid of when people will realise. You are starting to realise yourself so you are becoming their competition. We as the people of this country have a duty to uphold and they are afraid of it becoming common knowledge. It's not gonna be pretty, but it is a few years in OUR future. Be alert and be careful.
