Tens of thousands of Central Africans live trapped in areas affected for years by an armed conflict between rebel groups and the army. This isolated population faces enormous difficulties to gain access to healthcare. Everything is lacking: operational medical facilities, medicines and qualified health staff. Moreover, they suffer from neglected diseases such as sleeping sickness, malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Access to diagnosis and treatment is complicated. Every day Médecins Sans Frontières teams witness the isolation of these patients living in extremely remote regions.
