Mapping out the future

Have you ever stopped to think about how important geographical information is to our everyday lives? It effects just about everything, from the daily commute to how our food gets to our plates to knowing what clothes to wear with the unpredictable weather outside.

In short, geographical information makes a real difference to our lives and this is only set to continue as new and innovative ways of using data are invented.

An initiative called GeoVation, which is supported by Ordnance Survey, exists to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs. Its aim is to promote innovation for social, economic and environmental benefit through the use of geography. One of the ways they achieve this is through the GeoVation Awards, which help individuals, businesses and communities bring their map-based ideas to life.
