I'm trying to figure out what my spark bird was. As long as I can remember I've always loved birds, but I remained a casual backyard birdwatcher until 4 years ago when I took a class trip to Ship Island, MS. It was my first time using a scope & I was amazed at all the different kinds of seabirds there were. That got me more actively birding. I got a better field guide, got better binoculars, started writing a lifelist, started taking trips to see new birds, and took an ornithology class.

It was funny. When it got to the part talking about the pileated woodpecker I thought to myself "Why does that person sounds so familiar?" Well duh, because it's Sharon Stiteler! I found you through her blog. Very nice videos.

Yeah, your hiking career is pretty much over when you are stopping every 2 minutes to look at birds! Awesome video.

I've always been a birder but I think the bird that really got me going was a flock of Yellow-rumps that I came across that I could not find in my bird book. I then seriously took on the challenge of IDing every bird I could find and got hooked from there. You know some of where that took me. lol. Happy Birding!
