My father served on the Idaho and the West Virginia. I served on the Cruisers Helena and Saint Paul (1960's). I was privileged to go aboard New Jersey in 68 and her next recommisioning. I observed both while walking on the pier next to Missouri. I must say I was very impressed with the size and beauty of those ships. Thank goodness that there are people tat preserve history. USS Los Angeles was offered to Los Angeles , but Mayor Bradley refused her. At least now we have USS Iowa coming.

american foreign interventionism over and over again

seeing these great warships decommission makes me want to cry knowing they will never fire ir sail again. millions of dollars wasted for a four day battle we should at least keep them alive i case a war erupts and we could easily fight back
rest in peace forever all the brave battleships and their crew who fought...

Great documentary if a war where to be and i would call to service navy would be my choice.

i agree we should of kept these two Warspite and Vanguard as proud ladies of our empire
me and a friend are building a 1:350 diroma of the warspite (modernised) andd the uss Missouri as ultra moden

I know Britain was broke after WW 2, but I wish they would've kept one if not both of those 2 warrior ladies!!
-
@fairclought7 I agree!! HMS Warspite after the war, was treated as junk but she was such an awesome ship as was HMS Vanguard!! Though I believe that Warspite was the shit!! She kicked ass through 2 world wars and was STILL a bad ass!!

@Roadghost88 there is one pre-dreadnought battleship left, the british built Mikasa in japan which was their flagship at the 1905 battle of tsushima

One of the greatest crimes in naval history is that the country that gave the world the modern battleship and built the last ever battleship and had the most battleships no longer has any, we scrapped them and to me this is an unforgivable crime. at the very least the last battleship to enter service HMS Vanguard should have been preserved or the battleship with the most battle honours the HMS Warspite!!
One of the BEST American documentaries I have ever seen
Balanced , intelligent , incisive and most "gripping "
Well done.
Steve.

@Ctasker5 I think it whould be great, if the U.S. Navy still had in it's fleet at least one of those Iowa Class Battleships. It whould be great for training,to show the flag,in short a great tribute to a powerful navy and the men and women who have served our country The United States, so very well! I know it's just a wonderful dream, but that's what I think.
