Former First Edition drummer Mickey Jones introduces two performances by Jim Croce, which premiered on Kenny Rogers' weekly music show "Rollin' On The River" on January 18 1973.

Jim, backed as usual by his ace lead guitarist Maury Muehleisen, performs his biggest hit up to that time, "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", followed by "Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels)".

Mickey Jones first gives a background to each of the songs, which are then followed by further information about Jim and some nostalgic trivia from 1973.

Note: Mickey Jones mispronounces Maury Muehleisen's surname - for the correct pronunciation, listen carefully for the ever-gracious Croce's verbal credit to Maury right at the end of "You Don't Mess Around With Jim".

Fond memories of two extraordinary musicians who were taken from us far too young.

  • Amazing performances from 2 such talented artists. Like others have already said - I must find a copy of Gingerbreadd as I find Maury's voice and musicianship incredible.

  • AMERICAN LEGEND.

  • I had the luck to see Jim and Maury in Atlanta in the summer of '73 They played 2 shows 2 nights in a row at the Great Southeast Music Hall. I caught the 1st show Thursday night and stayed for the 2nd show and then came back and did the same thing on Friday. They were great and then they were gone. Never a month goes by without me listening to all of those songs and soon it will be 40 years since we lost them but his music will live on, maybe forever.

  • Remember My mom Crying when he died. He was great.

  • @cornypoope you def. should! I have both CD's Gingerbreadd and Before the Ever Since...they are fantastic!

  • Why did these amazing performs had to go while useless human beings live on into their 80s and 90s. If they had lived at least to their 60s !! We've been robbed lock, stock, & barrel with their untimely demise...Well God knows better always ! Lets abide !

  • JIm was the best.
