You don't understand. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can't be criticized for what you say. Lars von Trier never had to defend his statements over this in court, so I don't understand what YOU are complaining about. People are free to criticize him as much as they want, and coming to the Cannes festival isn't a human right either.

It was awkward, but for them to strip him of his awards for that is ridiculous. He lived most of his life thinking he was fully Jewish so it's not like he actually hates Jews. He was trying to make a joke but it went wrong and people over reacted and sensationalized it. The Oscars and the film industry just proved once again that politics is more important to them than actual artistic merit.
