Round 3 of the British lawn mower racing championship from Ham Street in Kent

The Sport of Lawnmower racing is now over 30 years old and we still run normal lawnmower engines (with the governer removed)up to 13.5hp. With the right gearing these ex grass cutters can achieve speeds in excess of 50mph!!

  • Mower number 80 is a Westwood Lawnbug and has the potential to be very quick. To make it go quick you need to change the pulley, as you said, but also remove the governor from the engine to allow it to rev freely. At our larger tracks the guys will comfortably reach 50mph on these. Trouble is at that speed the mower needs extra strengthening and a whole new steering arrangement too.

  • what were the things in the beging of this clip

I own a racing lawnmower and i dont even know what they hell those things are that have the motors in the front and some ducting

    in the video at 0:24/0:35

  • The things at the beginning are Group 2 Atco's and Webb's, traditional Roller driven mowers, with a grass collecting boxon the front. They are the ones used to get nice stripes in your lawn. The others are Westwood Lawn bugs, Built in the 70's, crap for cutting grass but great for Racing.
