@ James: Stop mistranslating verses. Daraba does not always mean to beat. Arabic, just like English has subtelties...

However respected the traslator was, does not make him infallible. Look towards the explanation of traditional Muslim scholars or those who have studied under them e.g. T.J Winter of Cambridge University or Hamza Yusuf Hanson.
