@HenfieldWill Or, for that matter, the fondness which Abraham Lincoln had for "Dixie" -- only this is weirder. Goes to show, though, it really was a war of brother against brother (with the fate of yet another brother in the balance, of course).

Would any music artist or any regular Joe (like myself) get in any trouble if they decided to sing this song anywhere?

I remember first hearing this in some (good) old Tex Avery cartoons. Now I have it stuck in my head and I'm from Massachusetts! LOL

Really great. I'm a mando beginner and I'm working on this song from the Fiddler's Fakebook. It has an A and B part but and around 1:15 you do a break that I don't recognize. Is it just a deviation on A/B, or something else?

Many thanks - the Rounders were wonderful - glad you liked this little tribute to them! :-)

You were having fun there. As usual an excellent way to research the history however I had to read the lyrics in "standard" English ! :)

The original lyrics' style is somewhat hammy, to my way of thinking - and the Holy Modal Rounders probably felt the same, as their words (which I've used) are much snappier and to the point! :-)

LOVED IT. I've been told its a post-Civil war tune but no matter its from that time and you did a ROCKING version of it! 5 stars!

1863, I believe and, in the way that "Lili Marlene" was popular with both Axis and Allied troops in WW2, "Jubilo" was popular with troops from both North and South in the American Civil War. Strange, eh? :-)
