The panel sits down for our first movie review as we discuss Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" starring Mickey Rourke & Marisa Tomei. Did we like the movie? Why or why not? What will the public's reaction to the movie be? Will wrestling or wrestlers be more appreciated or the reverse? Is the mainstream attention due to a genuine interest in pro wrestling, or Mickey Rourke's comeback story? Will S.A.G. look at wrestlers as potential members & what ramifications will this movie have on the industry? Is it the best wrestling movie ever made, or made yet? What is the message of the movie, if it had one? And is that a good thing? Hosted by Eric Santamaria.

  • Love the Piper impersonation!

Man, your shows are really well done. As a new subscriber, I'm really impressed with the depth of your commentary and the research that you guys do.

    Keep up the great work!

  • Why would they have had a huge Wrestlemania-like venue, for his "big comeback"?

It obviously wasn't supposed to be anything more than a higher profile indie event billing it as a comeback, that "hopefully" would have scouts from a "real" show in attendance.

Bigger shows always scout smaller venues for talent to swipe, or to pick back up for "one more run."

They didn't have the budget for it, but it would have made zero sense anyway.

And a happy ending would have been terrible.

  • @67crow76 His daughter was justified in being a whiner!

  • @helpmedie91111 That's what I love about the Wrestling Roundtable because not everybody naturally will agree on everything all the time as it is,period. One has to be objective!

  • @reh629 Come to think of it,both lifestyles outside of their own environments are similar.

  • @WickedNemesis That must have been Regal's punishment for resisting Pat Patterson's advances!LOL

  • @WrestlingRoundtable I have that Wresler on DVD too. That's a good one as well but focused more on Ed Asner's character and his female love interest/counterpart than the actual wrestling business itself, let alone AWA.

  • @philsims10 Of course, most non-wrestling fans have never heard of Beyond The Mat, anyway.

  • @landrykkb Or I should say the realistic portrayal of a former big time wrestling star who was broke and had to work 9 to 5 like everybody else.Let's face it,there are many Ram-like stories out there in the industry. It's definitely not a Rocky-like story!

  • The movie was good, but not necessarily great.I wish that The Ram would have had a happier ending with his estranged daughter, which would have been a better suited one than him returning to the pro ranks. It was most definitely a realistic portrayal of life on the indy circuit as a pro wrestler. No Holds Barred was a total bomb at the box office in 1989 and way too polished!

  • john morrison brings/brought in jim morrison...his film student background at uc-davis...&/or spirituality of different cultures &/or what-not...just my opinion/thoughts...
