A tour of the historic harbour of St. Peter Port harbour, Guernsey in the Channel Islands.

A harbour of sorts has been here since 1294. In those days sailing ships would have moored against the quay, or sea wall as it was, to load and unload goods. The whole area where the bus station is now, was reclaimed from the sea in 1854. There is a lot more historic facts on the video.

As you may see from my videos, I do quite a bit of filming at St. Peter Port harbour.

  • This brought back many happy memories! Thank you for posting. I will have to look through some old cine film and see if I have some footage still from Guernsey in the 1960s.

  • @harryfaber Thanks for the kind words. Would be great to see old films of Guernsey if you have some. Let me know if or when you have uploaded them.

  • Cool video, great to see it.

    White Rock has changed.

is the quay that the landing craft is moored (part of Cambridge) still known as the London berth?

    cheers

    Mick

  • Glad you liked it and thanks for the subscription.

I am pretty sure that the commercial berths are now referred to as numbers, No.1 berth, No.2 berth, etc. The one with the landing craft on I think is called No. 7 berth now.

  • thank you so much for puting this up! It brings back many memories. I liked the old building for loading passengers on - really old. which ferry ramp is used for the condor? It looks so pieceful there. Is the light house still operational?

  • I thought you would like this video Jon. Both ramps are used by Condor, sometimes their fast ferry can be on one and the Commodore Clipper can be on the other so they do use both and the lighthouse is still in use. I knew the harbour was old but it surprised me how old it was when I looked into it's history so I could add some dates and make it more interesting.
