The hard drive in this Dell 1530 XPS finally died. I replaced it with a Momentus XT Hybrid drive which has 4 GB of flash. Installing it was very easy, much easier than on my Late 2007 Macbook Pro. I restored Vista x64, installed SP2 and then patched it. It has iTunes, Jungle Disk, Office 2010, OpenOffice 3, Quicktime, Firefox, Adobe Reader X and HDTune installed.
After multiple reboots and about a week, we are down to 30 seconds for Vista to boot, and a total of about 50 seconds from hitting the power button to having a ready desktop. This isn't screaming fast, but it is much better than the lethargic noisy drive that it had.
The laptop does have SATA II, has 4GB of RAM, 2.10Ghz Core 2 Duo, BD burner, and the 8600M GT DDR3. 802.11N, the finger print reader. It's not top of the line, but pretty close.
