Freehand Decoration on Oval Platter

Decoration is carved into a decorative piece of handmade pottery at the pottery studio at ShackletonThomas in Bridgewater, VT. Makers of fine handmade furniture and pottery, ShackletonThomas is dedicated to creating exquisite pieces that have soul and life.

Decoration is drawn onto a slipped pot using an African porcupine quill. In certain pieces, the negative space is carved out to create further definition. Here, the piece is slab molded and the edge is crimped by the side of the same quill.
