I learned to drive on a 1945 Dodge WC, fore runner to PW. The frame was so stiff, that it would have been on 2 wheels if it had tried to go there. Stability at high speed wouldn't have been a problem, 45 mph was plenty fast with the gears that they had. Heck, my 2005 Ram would have trouble in those moguls! Not less traction, but ultimate traction.

Yeah the lack of weight in the back probably cause major traction issues. Not to mention we don't put the fuel tank in the cab of the truck anymore. You also have to consider the lights/wiring. And, if you do some research you'll find that the swivel was a 3" steel tube, so it could end pretty horribly on the road.
