The Bonobo Bar tying technique is a clean way to change up the color orientation of a variety of bars including classic bars, like the Solomon Bar. The following video demonstrates the standard Bonobo Bar tying technique and how to incorporate it into a bracelet. Still, play with this technique and explore the myriad of possibilities it can create. p.s. I would like to extend a special thanks for those who do not fast forward through my intros, and an even greater thanks to those who have picked up one of my novels. Your support helps me make these videos.

  • I notice you paracord is always perfectly round. I have assumed this is because you buy it in roles. I buy in 50 foot lengths. Do you agree with this, or do you "stretch" it is in some manor to get such perfectly semetrically paracord?

  • @itsrichagain - It's 450 Paracord. It has 4 strands in its core instead of 7 (as is the case for 550 Paracord).

  • GREAT video. I like the name of this knot. Is it inspired by the bonobo chimpanzee at all?

  • @tom61375 - Yes. Each locking knot looked (to me) like the head of a chimpanzee. But at the time I designed the tie, news reports were talking about how aggressive and violent chimpanzees can be, and I didn't want to crosswalk the imagery. So I choose Bonobo. The other, less known, chimp species, the Bonobos are far less aggressive and far more socially amenable than their common chimps cousins...and I wanted to shed some like on their existence.

  • @alb673 I imagine lengths are subject to individual knotters use. one knotter may tie tight another loose. I find my straps are tight and pushed together so i use a lot of cord. Others tie loose and have far less cord in their straps.

  • where do you buy your rope or string

  • is their a way that you can do it with a buckle.

  • Hi JD greetings from UK. Thx for the video very interesting. Just a question. I was trying to do this bracelet (with side release buckles) and after cutting 6' of both colours, I got to 8" and still had over a foot of cord left. Are your measurements a "safe" length or am I doing something wrong? Maybe I make the knots too tight? So I'm ending up with extra cord? I don't think the fact that I am using 550 paracord would make a difference, would it?

    Thanks

  • Nice tutorial and idea, JD. I'll have to make some variations of this and post them of the fusion knot forums. ;)

  • Great Video!

  • You should make an app for the ipod with instruction on how to make all of your knots an app that you dont need internet it would be cool

  • do you have any recommendations of other materials to use besides paracord?

  • You do amazing work. You are a true artist. I cant wait to read your work, I am certain I will be equally impressed. Please keep up both.

  • Dude... i love ur videos and how many different designs you have learned how to make.. you even taught me how to make the cobra weave which started my small business of making and selling paracord bracelets. U have really helped me.. i look forward to seeing more of your videos and i plan to try and attempt to make one of each of your designs..
