A wind up radio set to about 1000Khz is used to listen to the towers field. The field around the tower (at 5V) is in the megahertz range and it quickly dissipates into the Khz with distance.
@obewong ... I don't see why that wouldn't work. I'll certainly give it a go, the little dynamo inside couldn't crank up more than a few volts for the radio.
Could you connect just a normal battery operated radio without the batteries, and use the diode like you do with the LED... so you can power the radio by the tower and also use the radio as the field detector? Is that possible?
@obewong Aahhaha .... help me obewong, you're my only hope!
