It depends what country you're in or from. They're usually called 'chips' in USA, and are generally referred to as 'chips' by Australians. Australian snackfood company 'Smiths', originally labelled their product as 'Smith's Crisps'...then changed the label to 'Smith's Chips'....and finally, just 'Smith's'.
