Here's a typical moment which most people have experienced at least once in their lives. Your feelings can range from discomfort to sheer panic:

OH NO... someone is at your door. The doorbell is ringing - or you're hearing "knock, knock" but this is no "joke"! What is the first thing on your mind? "This place is a mess!"

Of course, you've been planning to get things organized - for months now! Okay, maybe even for YEARS now. You know life would be infinitely easier if you simply had less STUFF. You'd like to be able to open your door at any time of the day or night and feel good about the state of your home.

People feel like this every day, in offices, homes, dorm rooms, and businesses all over the world.

Here are a few familiar scenes:

Linda sits in her living room. Her eyes go to the pile of junk that needs to be organized. It's been sitting there for months. Every time she sees it, the energy drains from her and she feels negative. She berates herself for not doing something about it. But that's nothing - her neighbor has a garage filled floor to ceiling with stuff that hasn't moved in twenty years.

Dave is wondering where that special cooking tool is. He moved to his current home two years ago, but he still has not unpacked it and he has no idea where to start looking for it.

Worst of all: Cecilia never gets around to organizing those precious photographs which held all her memories. Then the box where she's been keeping them for years is destroyed during a flood. Cecilia's photos can't be replaced. If she had accomplished this project during the five years when she kept meaning to, the photos would now be in photo albums in her home, not lost forever.

  • i dont recommend getting rid of family heirlooms there is no telling what that (if) ugly thing is worth as they say one mans trash is another mans treasure

  • Also, do you have kids? Do you really think a teenager will listen if you leave a note on the door instead of telling them? You live in a dream land woman!

  • @velkoria Actually, I'm 18, I'm speaking from a kid point of view, not a mother point of view. I don't have kids, lol. But if I did have kids:

    1. Please don't judge how I raise my children.

    2. Coming from, basically a teenager, &someone who doesn't live the commercialized stereo-typical lifestyle Americans are "supposed" to live in order not to get any backwards judgment, I wouldn't notice some dumb "clean your room" note on my door. Maybe cuz I share a room with my bro&sis, idk, I jus wouldn't.

  • @SpontSteph914 lol maybe YOUR kids don't listen... All my mother had to do was ask.

  • @animenut23 - I agree, that home looked at bit too neat for my taste.

  • @StaffChih omg im loosing my shit right now! very funny! hehehe

  • Make your home as impersonal as a hotel room! Depersonalize your home, throw out your children's toys. There's hoarding, and then there's being a bitch, prioritizing design over family. Choose wisely.

  • @animenut23 yeah but have you seen hoarders....a box, a bit of dog shit, a dead owl and 5 year old milk is an heirloom to some ppl...

  • 1 suggestion: To parents who have kids that have a play room where you can close the door, don't bother telling the kids to clean the play room. They're kids, and they will make a mess again.

Do tell them to keep their bedroom clean, and the other rooms and even the backyard, because guest and maybe neighbors can see that. No guest really needs to go into the play room unless they bring kids, but who cares if they're kids. LET EM' PLAY! :)
