Victor and Kendrick, teen activists in the Bronx, talk about their project, The Eco-Ryders. The Eco-Ryders project is a creative approach to environmental justice, combining peer-led workshops, group discussion and urban gardening to learn to green the community. Participants also get to paint skateboards with designs they create themselves, as an incentive to participate, and to create artful green transportation.
Hunt's Point area in the Bronx has the highest rate of asthma in the country, largely due to the poor air quality. The Eco-Ryders seeks to educate teens on this connection and to help them get involved in improving the environment and the community's health.
The Eco Ryders are a recipient of a Powered By Service mini grant.
