This week we have a review of the Rode NT1A microphone, a mini shootout between cheap XLR cables and midrange Monster XLR Cables, and lastly we show you how to stretch tempos in Reaper. Thank you Rode for sending us the NT1A to review. The link to the mic is below, and enjoy the video!

  • Why is it important to have a good xlr cable? arn't all the same?

  • @dflkeg Sound differences are very small, however the build quality of a higher end cable is generally much better.

  • does having a pad on your interface completely substitute having one on your mic?

  • @heartkiller93 There may be a slight audible difference depending on the quality of your interface, but it likely won't be a very large difference.

  • could ya talk about the harmonies ya did on the vocals..plz

  • @musicoutlawbois1 We recorded a scratch track of the original vocal melody. Then we duplicated that track, added Melodyne pitch correction to the duplicated track, and moved the notes around inside Melodyne until we found a harmony that we liked. After that we recorded the final version of the original vocal melody, and used our pitch corrected harmony as a guide to record the final version of the harmony. Then we just mixed the vocals as usual to make them sound the way we wanted them to.

  • Hey guys, i have a question about the Rode mic.

Firstly, is the pop filter really any good? it looked like a fabric mesh and not a metal mesh. Personally i go for a metal pop filter because it doesn't interfere with the sound at all, but then again i am using cheaper mics (MXL 990 mainly)

I have found that Rode mics have really good frequency response, how does this thing really handle bass frequencies. i know you talked about the high end, but i was wondering about this.

    Thanks

  • Im going to buy the NT1a mic soon, but first wanted to know if i need an interface to connect it to my pc. Cant I just buy a cable that connects the mic to my usb slot on my pc, or will that reduce the quality of the recording??? Thanks
