i don't know what you were taught but i've been in irish for 8 years and i've always been told to have my arms in so called "cinnamon buns" where your hands are in fists with your thumbs tucked in. very good technique though!! (:

hey :) our group isn't competitive, so our teacher likes us to have our hands tucked to our hips, and it looks better if our thumbs are in that way so the hand is a smoothe line across. but that's just my group Lol

I also love the dresses. More traditional and much better than those gaudy, over-starched "solo dresses" that is becoming the norm.

I really enjoy fast reels or slipjigs, but anything in hardshoe is more difficult in a faster tempo Lol but yes, it's always a very good idea to work on different tempos. once, during a performance, our music just cut off, but we were still able to keep dancing because of all the practice :)

@ReelKate I admire that you "rose to the occasion." Our teacher stresses practicing to different tempos for just this reason. Some of our feis musicians play very fast before lunch, lol.
