10/2/2012 - I've been asked to remove the word "cunt" from the comments below. Irrespective of my feelings on the word itself, I feel that I cannot remove the comments because, in doing so, I would be advocating the same behaviour as Tipper, making me a hypocrite. I hope you understand.

So - basically the whole labeling scheme, according to Tipper, was to give busy parents an alert system as to what their kids were listening to. HOW ABOUT ACTUALLY BEING INVOLVED IN YOUR KID'S LIVES AND LISTENING TO THE MUSIC YOURSELVES, PARENTS! I grew up listening to punk in the early 80s - my Dad heard it all and loved groups like The Cramps. He knew exactly what I thought about the music I was listening to and why it connected with me - because he actively participated in my life.

Tipper Gore and the PMRC are the best thing that ever happened to the controversial bands of that era.....they sent their sales through the roof with those warning stickers. I'm willing to bet it was a win win in the end since her husband and her probably do investment business with a corp. that has something to do with the industry....it's such a show for the everyday sheeple!!!!!

The thing that sucks is that a blonde woman will always have more sway with the general populace: media perpetuates them as innocent, wholesome and righteous or victims more so than other demographics, despite the disproportion in % of blondes in real life vs. % blondes on television. So although caught in lies on the spot, parents will gravitate towards her perspective over the punk rock singer. We need to reclaim the media, it's one of the most powerful tools used against us.
