Help Save 1-800-SUICIDE

As 1-800-SUICIDE marks its tenth anniversary this year, the hotline needs your help.

It was founded in 1998 by Reese Butler in memory of his wife, Kristin who had committed suicide.

The Kristin Brooks Hope Center has helped almost three million callers connect to help and hope. As they enter their second decade of service to the public, continued support is needed to ensure that the confidentiality of every caller is protected.

Because they are totally privately funded, they need to prove to the government that they are capable of supporting 1-800-SUICIDE.

The money you donate will not only be used to pay the phone bill that connects about 50,000 callers each month to the Hopeline Network, but will also be used to pay for training of online crisis counselors who will provide the same support via online counseling. This is where the young people of today reach out for help.

The success of 1-800-SUICIDE is based on individuals in crisis knowing that any personal identifiable information is kept strictly confidential.The Hope Center's volunteer staff and Board remain committed to preserving confidential suicide prevention programs. Your action today assures their sustainability!

The Kristin Brooks Hope Center and its national 1-800-SUICIDE hotline is a great asset to our society - one of those private-sector initiatives called a "point of light."

One of my best friends is suicidal. I don't completely understand it but all I know is that I recommended calling this hotline and she's getting better quickly. Recently, she ended up showing me her bruises, cuts, and burns. She really opened up to me about this. And that meant a lot to me. Thank you for saving my best friend:) and for saving many other lives...

Impacting lives in a good way. I would later have people come up to me and tell me they appreciated something I did or said. They would say that and I would think to myself how it would have been different if I wasn't there to do that. It all works out really, even when you have no idea what's happening. It's good not to know what's going on, sometimes good things happen. Wait for it.

If you go to church you will get help. The best ones have the best Youth groups. So if you are ever alone and need help I suggest you go to a christian person you know from church or school. They will probably invite you to church and you can ask to speak with a pastor and that really helps. Prayer goes a long way and sometimes strangers will care about you the most. I've been in situations where something wanted me to end my life and it was usually because I was impacting lives without knowing.

Those of you who are contemplating the idealism of suicide must remember that God has you here for a reason. Not just to make your life a living hell at school, work, finances, or losing a love one? But we are here for each other & those of you who feel you have no one who cares will be surprised that you do & that is God. Be patient because God has a special job for all of us. Life is short & no matter how bad it may seem? You may be pleasently surprised how it will turn out. God loves you!

That was a horrible hotline. The lady kept telling me I need to tell my parents about my thoughts and everything. Then she said if I killed myself "other peoples lifes would go on" this kinda made me more depressed then I already was...
