So glad I came out of churches like this. All the pastor does is make you feel guilty by pointing his finger at you like you should be doing something. If you're not, then you're not "on fire" for God.

The Bible says that the Holy Ghost WILL come. It's a gift that is promised to you. So, you don't have to chant for it , it's given to you. It's not followed by any "quickening" or tongues either. Study to show thyself approved. Try every spirit because everything is not from God.

@crjetpilot As much as I agree with you on these issues, I would also say that we are surrounded by "brain washing" that keeps us from thinking rationally. Not just religion. Watch a sit com and record yourself laughing, then notice you only laugh when the studio audience laughs, even if it isn't funny. take out the laughs and you will find it was no where near as entertaining. This is a proven tactic and it was placed in for that exact effect.

I spent many days in a church just like this when I visited my great-grandmother, and although I don't believe in god at all, the people in my grandmother's church were the most sincere people I have ever met. When someone was sick,they took care of them. When a farmer was down, his field was plowed or harvested, and when someone was in need, the people tried to take care of that. My memories of that church are horrendous, like nightmares, but I was a little child.

It is funny that mans understanding changes over the years...but god is still the same.... yesterday , today and forever.. 44 long years and the holy ghost still makes you a better person.... you cannot be a true Christan without it ....thank you Jesus for giving me the holy ghost... and you have to speak in tongues then you know you have it...

I was raised in this type of church, although we didn't do the snake thing. When i was 16 I told my parents I might want to attend college someday. My father turned me in to the pastor and I was called up in front of the church at the Sunday morning service. They all came forward and gathered around me to cast Satan out of my thoughts. They wouldn't let me go back to my seat until i repented for wanting to go to college & asked for God's forgiveness in front of everyone. Education is the enemy.
